About Madrona Recovery

Empowering youth through evidence-based care and supportive relationships for lasting recovery and growth.

Our Story

Even in the face of adversity, the Madrona tree bends, adapts, and endures. We believe individuals and communities have that same strength. Life brings challenges—and we all deserve compassionate, professional support to navigate them. At Madrona, we’re here to help you grow, heal, and flourish.

Our Approach

Madrona Recovery is committed to the safety and wellness of the adolescents in our care. We are proud to be implementing a trauma and resiliency informed program to keep young people safe and support them in their recovery.

Licensed therapists maintain low caseloads. In order to facilitate a trauma-informed transition to our care, your therapist will contact you before admission and meet you for orientation on your first day.

Our Team

Meet the compassionate professionals supporting our youth.

John Thornton

CEO and Founder

Has over 25 years of experience in residential care for teens, including a decade as a teacher prior to launching Madrona. His background also spans years of coaching youth, college, and professional athletes, reflecting his deep commitment to mentorship and growth. At home, John lives with his two teenage daughters on a lively homestead where they care for goats, chickens, and a rabbit—a reflection of his lifelong passion for working with animals. This love of animals is woven into the fabric of Madrona, where therapeutic care and connection to nature go hand in hand.
